Parenting together, even when you're apart.
Your relationship as a couple may have ended, but your role as parents hasn't. Co-parenting support helps separated and divorced parents work together, or at least alongside each other, in a way that keeps children at the centre and conflict out of their daily lives.
Parent coaching to back it up
Many parents find it helps to pair co-parenting sessions with our parent coaching, which offers concrete strategies for managing behaviour, big emotions and transitions between homes. Our coaches help you respond to your child with patience and confidence, even when the other household does things differently.
When your child needs support too
If your child is struggling with the separation, our child and adolescent therapists can work with them directly, and we coordinate so the adults and children are working toward the same goals. Because speech-language therapy is offered in the same practice, children with additional needs can get joined-up care in one place.
What co-parenting support looks like
Sessions can be with one parent or both, depending on what's safe and workable for your family. We focus on practical, child-centred goals rather than revisiting the relationship:
-
Communicating clearly and respectfully about the children
-
Agreeing on consistent routines, rules and expectations across two homes
-
Planning handovers, holidays and special occasions
-
Responding to children's worries without putting them in the middle
-
Handling disagreements before they escalate
-
Adjusting as children grow and family circumstances change
When co-parenting isn't safe
Where there has been abuse, coercive control or ongoing safety concerns, joint sessions are not appropriate. In those situations we offer individual support instead and can help you think through parallel parenting, where each household runs independently with minimal contact.
We can help with:
-
Behaviour problems and emotional regulation
-
Depression and anxiety
-
Trauma and grief/loss
-
Divorce / family separation
-
Unresolved childhood trauma
-
Positive discipline skills
-
Stress Reduction / Mindfulness training
