Support for every member of the family.
Separation changes everything at once: your home, your routines, your finances and how your children experience family life. At The Giving Tree Centre, we support every member of the family through it, from the first difficult conversations to settling into a new normal.
Support for adults
Whether you chose the separation or it came as a shock, it's common to feel grief, anger, guilt, anxiety or relief, sometimes all in the same day. Individual counselling gives you a confidential space to process the end of the relationship, make decisions with a clearer head, and look after your own wellbeing while everything else is changing.
Support for children and teens
Children often don't have the words for what they're feeling. They may show it through changes in sleep, behaviour, school performance or friendships. Our child and adolescent therapists help young people understand the changes in their family, express difficult feelings in age-appropriate ways, and feel secure moving between two homes.
Support for parents
How parents handle separation has a lasting effect on how children adjust. We help parents talk to their children about the separation, respond to big emotions, and keep children out of adult conflict. For ongoing support between households, see our co-parenting support.
